Glossary

Description: A page students keep in binders on which to write terms as they are introduced in class. Typically, we include spaces for examples, non-examples, and sketches or diagrams. Some are set up for students to rate their understanding of each term initially and as they go along. (Frequently in MBR classrooms we don’t introduce the scientific terminology until after we have developed the concepts so this feature may or may not be relevant.)

Rationale: Gives students one place to quickly access the vocabulary for reference or studying instead of having to search through notes etc. By requiring students to identify examples and non-examples and include sketches, the very act of entering terms helps clarify and cement the concepts.
